MACON, Ga. – FGCU’s Chris Sale earned "Louisville Slugger" National Player of the Week honors Tuesday in addition to picking up Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week accolades.

Sale, a junior lefthander, set a FGCU record with 15 strikeouts in a complete game one-hitter to lead the Eagles past Belmont, 1-0, Friday evening at Swanson Stadium. The Lakeland, Fla. native controlled the mound throughout the nine inning performance, allowing no runs to score on one hit, while registering a record setting 15 strikeouts with only one walk.

Sale ranks in the national top 10 in strikeouts and earned his second A-Sun Pitcher of the Week award Monday. Sale earned Cape Cod League Pitcher of the Year honors last summer and Baseball American named Sale the top prospect in the Cape Cod League. He also earned First-Team All-Atlantic Sun honors in 2009.

Sale shares the honor with Matt Harvey of North Carolina, Kendall Lewis of Eastern Michigan, Jake Magner of North Dakota, Jordan Ribera of Fresno State, Justin Topa of Long Island and Christian Bergman of U.C. Irvine.
