Tournament Champ Stetson Swept at Atlanta Regional
|

Atlanta, Ga. – Michael Fisher hit a grand slam and Matt Wieters added a two-run homer as top-seed Georgia Tech defeated no. 4 seed Stetson 7-5 in the opening round of the NCAA Atlanta Regional Saturday afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets (46-16) scored seven runs in the first three innings, then held off a late Hatter rally to stay in the winner’s bracket. Georgia Tech will play Vanderbilt at 7 p.m. while the Hatters (38-23) will play Michigan in elimination game at 3 p.m.
“We squandered too many opportunities early," Stetson coach Pete Dunn said. "But once it got to be 7-0 our kids didn’t quit. Nery came in and did just a tremendous job. We got to get after it again and get a ‘W’ and come back tomorrow. Our kids are disappointed, but I think they will come out hard in this game and play well.”

Atlanta, Ga. – Eric Rose went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI as no. 3 seed Michigan eliminated no. 4 seed Stetson 11-1 in the second day of the NCAA Atlanta Regional Saturday afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium.
Paul Hammond tossed a complete-game six-hitter as the Wolverines (43-20) advanced to play again on Sunday.
The Hatters, who fell 7-5 to top-seed Georgia Tech earlier in the day, went 0-2 in the NCAA tournament for the second straight year and finished the season with a 38-24 record.
“I am real proud of these kids,” Stetson coach Pete Dunn said. “We struggled early in the year but got it back together and went through the conference tournament undefeated to get here. We would have loved to come in here and got some ‘W’s, but it didn’t happen.”
