JOHNSON CITY, Tenn., - Second-seeded Stetson tallied the first three points against the Camels, but four Campbell singles competitors forced a decisive third set before the Hatters accrued their final point and advanced to the championship round with a 4-1 triumph.
Nos. 2 and 3 doubles claimed the doubles point with relative ease as with a pair of 8-3 victories. In singles action, Stetson's Marcus Echtler added to the Hatter advantage with a 6-3, 7-5 win against A-Sun Freshman of the Year Davy Sum. Joey Jones put Stetson on the verge of victory when his opponent at No. 3 retired following an ankle injury. The remaining matches went into the final third set with Campbell's Beto Mondini picking up a win before Stetson senior Filip Kircka closed out the match in a third set tiebreaker (4-6, 6-3, 7-6(3)).
The Hatters (21-4) will challenge top-seeded ETSU for the second consecutive season in Saturday’s championship round. Match time is set for 10 a.m.
