NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Not only was Jeff Forehand expected to restore Lipscomb's rich baseball tradition when he took over as the Bisons coach two years ago, he was called on to do it at a higher level.
The school had moved up to the NCAA from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where the Bisons won two national championships (1977 and 1979) over a three-year span under former Coach Ken Dugan.

But Forehand, a former Belmont player whose energetic personality is matched by his passion for the sport, has pumped life back into the program by guiding the Bisons to their first NCAA tournament berth.
"This is what I've done my whole life, I grew up in a baseball family,'' Forehand said. "I don't know what else I would do if the Forehand family wasn't involved in baseball. I'm fortunate to get to do something I love everyday. It's not work to me."
The Bisons (28-27), who earned their berth by winning the Atlantic Sun tournament with a 10-9 victory in 15 innings over Gardner-Webb last Sunday, swing into first-round action Friday against host Georgia.
"We play in a pretty tough league,'' Lipscomb Hall of Famer Farrell Owens said. "It's not the Southeastern Conference, but it's pretty tough. And for us to be the No. 1 seed going into our conference tournament and winning in the fashion that we did has just got a lot of people excited again."
