The name Rhys (pronounced Reese) is a little more common in Wales than the rest of the British Isles, but not by much.

It certainly is a name that you won't often come across in the United States – unless if you happen to be from Johnson City, Tenn., or are a follower of the East Tennessee State University men’s golf program.

If you’re either of those, then the name Rhys is about as common as Rob or Ron or Rich.

From the fall of 2003 through the spring of 2007 a young man from Wales named Rhys Davies became Mr. Everything at ETSU, earning first-team All-America three times and setting school records in just about every category imaginable. Four times he represented ETSU as a member of Europe’s Palmer Cup team and twice he competed for Great Britain & Ireland in the Walker Cup.

While Davies graduated this past spring, there’s still a Rhys on campus.

Rhys Enoch is a freshman who has already made a mark in coach Fred Warren’s Buccaneer lineup this fall.

In his first four starts, Enoch has placed fifth at Carpet Capital, seventh at the Ridges and tied for fifth at Isleworth. Those three top 10s equal the number posted by Davies, his fellow countryman, during his entire freshman season.
